The legendary jazz pianist Dick Hyman, in celebration of his 99th birthday, will perform at the Music Salon of Sarasota in a very special and sure to be memorable concert featuring the masterful duo, pianist Pablo Arencibia and saxophonist Aaron West. The event takes place on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 3 p.m. Admission by donation may be procured by contacting the founder of the Music Salon of Sarasota, Steve Kramer, at stevekramermusic@gmail.com. Kramer hosts the event in his home, a charming setting which carries on the European salon tradition of fine concerts offered in the intimate environment of one’s home.
The event will honor Dick Hyman, an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger renowned for his extraordinary versatility across jazz styles from stride and ragtime to modern swing. Born in 1927 in New York City, he became one of the most respected interpreters of early American jazz piano and a frequent collaborator with filmmakers including Woody Allen, scoring or performing in many of his films. Over a career spanning more than seven decades, Hyman has recorded dozens of albums and is celebrated for his encyclopedic knowledge of jazz piano history and technique. Hyman currently resides in Venice, Florida and was honored along with his late wife Julia Hyman at the opening of the Music Salon of Sarasota in 2024.
Pianist Pablo Arencibia and saxophonist Aaron West, both professors of music at the University of South Florida, have performed together in ensembles and as a duo, combining their high energy virtuosity and refined musical sensitivity to a wide range of jazz styles, from classic standards to modern post-bop.
Arencibia, an award-winning once child prodigy, has performed in countries including Venezuela, Spain, the United States, France, Greece, Romania, and Colombia. At age 16, Arencibia graduated from the Juan Jose Landaeta National Conservatory in Caracas, Venezuela and later earned a Master of Music degree in Jazz Piano Performance from the University of South Florida where he currently serves as Professor of Classical and Jazz Piano. Arencibia co-leads ARConnection, a modern post-bop ensemble charged with elements of fusion, electric, and Latin jazz, which he founded in 2022 with drummer Dave Rudolph.
West earned a Master of Music degree from the University of South Florida where his current responsibilities include teaching the Jazz Saxophone Studio, Survey of Jazz, and Pop Music Theory. He has solidified a place in the Tampa Bay music scene by performing with artists such as the Simon Lasky Group, The Ross Strauser Jazz Orchestra, Sandujazz, and the Gulf Coast Symphony. He also currently works as an audio engineer at Morrisound Recording, live sound engineer at the New Tampa Performing Arts Center, and tours with Chuck Owen’s Resurgence as the live sound engineer.
The evening’s host and mastermind behind the Music Salon of Sarasota concert series, Steve Kramer, is an international concert cellist known for his versatility across classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician with numerous ensembles, bringing the cello into diverse musical settings that range from traditional repertoire to innovative cross-genre collaborations. Kramer is also recognized for his work as a recording artist and educator, helping expand the expressive possibilities of the cello in modern performance.
The Music Salon of Sarasota was launched by Kramer on April 7, 2024 together with his wife, Anna Kramer, daughter Emilia, and sons Victor and Samuel in their home once belonging to Bogoljub Ronac, a survivor of the Holocaust. The immensely popular concert series is held every first Sunday of the month, bringing together an international community of musicians, artists, authors, poets, painters, sculptors, and photographers—many of whom are both friends and colleagues—to play all periods of music, genres, and styles, and exhibiting their artwork.
The Salon requires a donation which is given as an honorarium to guest musicians and all other performers. Each guest is also invited to bring an hors d’oeuvre, dessert, or wine for an intermission buffet. Steve, Anna, Emilia, Victor, and Samuel welcome guests with open arms and share a most unique, fun, and fiery musical experience, accompanied by musical anecdotes.
