Miles Davis Centennial Birth of the Cool Tribute

In celebration of Miles Davis’ centennial year, join the USF Faculty Jazztet for a tribute to a recording that monumentally shifted the jazz sound. In 1949 Davis, having just left Charlie Parker’s band, joined forces with arranger Gil Evans and others for the album that became known as the “Birth of the Cool.” Davis and Evans later collaborated on a number of timeless, period defining recordings such as “Miles Ahead,” “Sketches of Spain,” and “Porgy and Bess.” This nonet, led by trombonist Tom Brantley and featuring trumpet player Derek Ganong, the USF Jazztet also features: Tamara Danielsson – Alto Saxophone, Ross Strauser- Baritone Saxophone, Lyndsie Wilson- French Horn, Phil Beatty- Tuba, Pablo Arencibia- Piano, LaRue Nickelson – guitar, Mauricio Rodriguez – Bass, and David Rudolph- Drums.
