In celebration of Miles Davis’ centennial year, join the USF Jazztet for a tribute to a recording that monumentally shifted the jazz sound. In 1949 Davis, having just left Charlie Parker’s band, joined forces with arranger Gil Evans and others for the album that became known as the “Birth of the Cool.” Davis and Evans later collaborated on a number of timeless, period defining recordings such as “Miles Ahead,” “Sketches of Spain,” and “Porgy and Bess.” This nonet, led by trombonist Tom Brantley and featuring trumpet player John Castleman, the USF Jazztet also features: Aaron West- Alto Saxophone, Ross Strauser- Baritone Saxophone, Lyndsie Wilson- French Horn, Phil Beatty- Tuba, Pablo Arencibia- Piano, Mark Neuenschwander- Bass, and David Rudolph- Drums.
